Toughmet® is a copper-nickel-tin alloy with outstanding properties. It is produced by our partner MATERION.

ToughMet® is characterized by:
  • high hardness and strength (similar to titanium)
  • a low coefficient of friction (similar to bronze with addition of lead)
  • high resistance to wear (similar to steel)
  • no cold welding (fretting)
  • high resistance to corrosion
  • excellent machining (> 3 x fast compared to tool steel)
  • no lead

Our partners process the ingots into semi-finished products through forging, rolling, extruding and drawing. The processing is followed by a heat treatment which is necessary to achieve the required properties, such as hardness, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity.

SCHMELZMETALL AG is the main production site for our alloys HOVADUR® and HOVADUR® K. In Gurtnellen, our experts also deal with the metallurgy of our alloys. Due to our central stock, we are able to supply you a wide range of semi-finished products quickly from stock. We also produce finished parts according to your specification in our own machine center.

SCHMELZMETALL Hungária Kft

Fields of activity

SCHMELZMETALL Hungária KFT. Is the main production site for our HOVADUR® B alloys. For test casts, we have a small 10 kg vacuum furnace at our disposal. Furthermore, we have our own forge and the possibility to carry out heat treatments ourselves.

  • Furnace up to 1900 kg
  • Open die forging with two hammers (750kg / 1000kg strike power)
  • Heat treatment plants
