Properties

SCHMELZMETALL products in space:

Aerospace demands ever-increasing standards concerning performance, security and reliability of materials. Schmelzmetall is proud of being the exclusive supplier of alloys for the combustion chambers of the Ariane rockets since the beginning of European aerospace.

A few millimeters (wall thickness) of a special copper alloy separate the flame inside the combustion chamber having a temperature of more than 3000°C from the fuels oxygen and hydrogen having a temperature of about -150°C.

The following video from German TV channel ARD explains the functioning of a rocket. Starting from minute 04:04, you will see the cladding of the combustion chamber made of our special alloy.

Our partners process the ingots into semi-finished products through forging, rolling, extruding and drawing. The processing is followed by a heat treatment which is necessary to achieve the required properties, such as hardness, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity.

SCHMELZMETALL Hungária KFT. Is the main production site for our HOVADUR® B alloys. For test casts, we have a small 10 kg vacuum furnace at our disposal. Furthermore, we have our own forge and the possibility to carry out heat treatments ourselves.
